Have Questions About Orthodontics?

At what age should my child visit the orthodontist?
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children see an orthodontist by age 7. Depending on the specific situation, we have even seen children as early as age five. An orthodontic visit at an early age helps to you to know if there will be future crowding or growth problems for your child. With this knowledge we can help you decide if starting the orthodontic process early is best for your child. The goal of early treatment is to help reduce significant crowding or bite issues as the child grows. An early visit to the orthodontist is a preventative measure to aid in the future eruption of permanent teeth. If your child’s upper and lower teeth do not match up correctly when they close their mouth, or you notice any other alignment issues, we recommend a new patient examination to address your questions or concern.
Should I get metal braces or Invisalign aligners?

How do I take care of my Invisalign trays?
Taking care of your Invisalign trays is important. Plaque or food debris left on teeth or the aligners can lead to the formation of cavities. Regularly brush your teeth and aligners with a soft-bristled tooth brush and toothpaste or clear antibacterial soap.

What foods should I stay away from?
Popcorn:The hulls can get wedged under braces and become very difficult to remove, which leads to serious gum irritation.
Acidic drinks:Soft drinks, sports drinks and energy drinks are tough on teeth and can cause white spots that will be very apparent once the braces are removed. Don’t go overboard!
Sticky candy:Caramel, gummy bears, and similar treats can coat your teeth and may even pull off brackets accidentally.
Overly hard or chewy foods:Even healthy fruits and vegetables could damage your braces if they’re too tough or chewy. Instead of staying away from them, though, try cutting them up into small pieces or softening them through the cooking process.
Ice cubes:It’s NEVER a good idea to chew on ice, but especially when you have braces. Keep your brackets and wires safe by avoiding them.
